James R. Fisco, D.O.

After being raised in Cleveland, Ohio, as one of three children, and a die-hard Cleveland Indians fan, I decided to step out and attend Bowling Green State University and discovered that there were other parts of Ohio that were inhabited by humans that were actually outside the northeast Ohio geographical area. I succeeded in making it through those years at BGSU and graduated in June of 1982 with a B.S. in Biology. Not knowing exactly what to do with such a degree, besides go live with the whales and penguins in Patagonia, (which in retrospect would have been a chance of a lifetime, but what does one know at 21); I applied and was accepted to Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. It was here where I met my future wife, Emma Garcia D.O., who happened to be in the same medical school class. We consistently relied on each other to overcome the hurdles and challenges of medical school, further strengthening our relationship.

We first came to the Dayton area after we were married and at the end of our third year of medical school, completing our student training at Grandview Hospital. Upon graduation from medical school in 1986, my wife and I completed our internship and residency training at Brentwood Hospital in Warrensville Hts., Ohio outside of Cleveland. I received by board certification in family practice in July 1988.

In August of 1988, I moved with my wife, eight months pregnant with our first of three precious little gifts from God to Gallipolis, Ohio to begin a family practice at Holzer Clinic. For the following two years I treated patients at various clinics around southeast Ohio, including Gallipolis, Jackson, Proctorville, Middleport areas and Pt. Pleasant WV. I remained with Holzer clinic for 11 years, the last eight years primarily in Jackson, Ohio. While at the clinic I served as Family Practice department chairman for five years and served on the Board of Directors for three years, gaining invaluable administrative experience. I also received additional training in occupational medicine through the Univ. of Cincinnati and practiced not only in family practice but also occupational/industrial medicine.

With the children approaching junior high school age, my wife and I needed to make a decision regarding their schooling. We decided that if we could, we should attempt to provide our children with more of a well-rounded education than what was being provided for them in southeastern Ohio. This spurned our decision to move to the Springboro area (not to mention that I have in-laws in the area); so in October we "packed our bags and moved to Spring-boro that is, swimming pools and soccer stars". I began practice here at the Family Health Center in mid-October 1999 and have enjoyed the patients that I have seen thus far and look forward to serving the community not only through my practice but also through participation in church, school, and recreational activities.
